Pro-Life * Capital Punishment * War

Are you a hypocrite if you believe in all 3?

If you are Pro-Life, and you don’t believe that it’s right to MURDER innocent Babies, does that mean you must also be against Capital Punishment and War? It might even seem like a strange question to some but amazingly, there are some Christians who believe exactly that. They think you have a double standard if you refuse to murder babies but you are OK with Capital Punishment and War.

What does the Bible say in regards to Abortion, Capital Punishment and War? As Christians, the Bible should be the deciding factor. A good place to start is the TEN COMMANDMENTS. Exodus 20:13 says, “Thou shalt not KILL.” And Jesus, quoting the TEN COMMANDMENTS in Matthew 19:18, interpreted “THOU SHALT NOT KILL as THOU SHALT NOT MURDER.” So, let’s see…is ABORTION MURDER? How about CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, is that MURDER? How about WAR, is WAR MURDER?

In regards to Unborn Babies, the Bible says ~ Psalms 139:13-16 ~ “For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.” Clearly, Unborn Babies are Little Humans that God has created. And they have just as much a right to life as does the mother who is carrying them. And in the Bible, if someone did something that caused the Unborn Baby to die, that person PAID WITH THEIR LIFE ~ Exodus 21:22,23 ~ “When men get in a fight and hit a pregnant woman so that her children are born prematurely but there is no injury, the one who hit her must be fined as the woman’s husband demands from him, and he must pay according to judicial assessment. If there is an injury, then you must give life for life…” Clearly, killing an unborn Baby is MURDER. Christians have no choice but to be PRO-LIFE if they want to be in harmony with the Bible.
What about Capital Punishment? God Himself INSTITUTED Capital Punishment in the Old Testament for the purpose of PUNISHING murderers, and there is no evidence that He ever did away with it…it should still be in force. He tells us when something has been changed, such as in the case of CIRCUMCISION. Circumcision was something that was in effect until Jesus died on the Cross, and then, Circumcision, along with all the rest of the Ceremonial laws were done away with. Capital Punishment is not MURDER, it’s the PUNISHMENT for the SIN of MURDER. So Christians should be in SUPPORT of Capital Punishment if they want to be in harmony with the Bible.
And what about WAR? Is it wrong for Christians to fight in a WAR? The LORD Himself calls Himself, a “man of war.” Exodus 15:3 ~ “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is His name.” All through the Bible, GOD’s MEN have been “men of war.” Abraham, the father of the faithful, had his own TRAINED ARMY of 300 men. David, a man after God’s own heart was known as a “man of war from his youth.” 1 Samuel 17:33. Throughout the Old Testament God’s men fought in wars. By New Testament times, His people were ruled by other Nations and not allowed to have an Army. After the Bible was written, during the times of terrible persecution of the Christians, the Waldenses and the Huguenots fought bravely for their religious freedom. Many Christians fought in the Revolution of 1776, and in the Civil War as well. Whether it is right or wrong for a Christian to fight in a war, as I understand it, has to do with what the war is about. I don’t believe we should fight in “wars of conquest” but I do believe we should fight to protect our FREEDOM and the FREEDOM of those who cannot fight for themselves (such as in the Civil War, fighting to FREE the BLACKS from SLAVERY). I don’t believe that the “men of war” throughout the Bible were MURDERERS, not were the Waldenses or Huguenots MURDERERS, nor were the Christians fighting in the Revolution of 1776 nor the Civil War MURDERERS. We live in a world of sin, and the Bible tells us there will be WARS until Jesus returns…most of us have lived our life in peace but that may change and we may yet be called upon to step up to the plate and fight.
As I understand it, Christians should ALWAYS be PRO-LIFE, they should stand with the Bible on the side of Capital Punishment and they should be ready, if called upon, to join in a war for the right reasons, to preserve FREEDOM for themselves and others. That is not being HYPOCRITICAL…it is being a TRUE CHRISTIAN.
